John LaPann brings more than 30 years of high level investment and planning experience to his role as President of Federal Street Advisors. John also chairs the firm's Investment Committee.
John LaPann brings more than 30 years of high level investment and planning experience to his role as President of Federal Street Advisors. John also chairs the firm's Investment Committee. Before founding Federal Street, John served as senior vice president of Gannett, Welsh & Kotler after seven years as vice president of Pell, Rudman & Company. He received a BA from Williams College and a masters degree from the State University of New York in Albany. Currently, he serves on the investment committee of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, and is a trustee of several individual and charitable trusts.

Dan Gross joined Federal Street Advisors in 2005, bringing 27 years of financial services experience to the firm. He is a Principal, responsible for both individual and tax-exempt clients, and is a voting member of the firm's Investment Committee.
Dan Gross joined Federal Street Advisors in 2005, bringing 27 years of financial services experience to the firm. He is a Principal, responsible for both individual and tax-exempt clients, and is a voting member of the firm's Investment Committee. Dan spent 15 years at Scudder Investments, where he was a managing director. At Scudder, he oversaw the firm's global product group and, later, directed the AARP Investment Program, a $13 billion fund complex. Dan has held senior roles with other leading investment management organizations including The Vanguard Group and TIAA-CREF. He received his AB in Economics at Vassar College in 1978 and earned his MBA, majoring in Finance, from the Wharton School in 1983. Dan was a Board member of Wide Horizons for Children and now serves on the Finance Committees of both the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute and the Asperger's Association of New England (AANE).

Mark Peters started with Federal Street in 2003 as Director of Investment Consulting. In addition to working with high-net worth individuals, his responsibilities extend to the investment committees of the firm's charitable foundation clients.

Mark is a voting member of the Investment Committee. Prior to joining Federal Street, Mark was vice president and director of Product Analysis at Scudder Investments/Deutsche Bank. Previously, he served as vice president and research director at LPL Financial Services, and as Director of Marketing for Travelers Investment Management Company. Mark obtained his undergraduate degree from The Colorado College, received his MBA from the University of Connecticut, and was conferred the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst. Mark is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society.

Ellen Silk joined the firm in 2002, and today has day-to-day responsibility for overseeing the investment programs of her clients and is the firm's expert on income and estate tax issues. In addition, she is a voting member of the Investment Committee.

Prior to joining Federal Street Advisors, Ellen spent seven years as an audit manager for Coopers and Lybrand followed by nine years as director of finance and administration at Chestnut Hill Management Corporation. Ellen has a BBA in Business Administration from University of Michigan and has been a CPA since 1985. She received a diploma from Boston University's Program for Financial Planners and is now a CFP professional. Ellen served as the Board Treasurer of the South Area Solomon Schechter Day School for four years.

Charlie Walsh started with Federal Street in 2009, bringing 30 years of financial services and international business experience to the firm. In addition to working with high-net worth individuals, Charlie is a voting member of the firm’s Investment Committee.
Charlie Walsh started with Federal Street in 2009, bringing 30 years of financial services and international business experience to the firm. In addition to working with high-net worth individuals, Charlie is a voting member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to joining Federal Street, Charlie spent 7 years at LongVue Advisors, a firm he co-founded. Prior to founding LongVue, Charlie worked for 15 years at Fleet Bank and its predecessor, BankBoston. He was a Director and Senior Private Banker responsible for managing relationships with high net worth individuals in the United States and overseas, including business owners, entrepreneurs and senior corporate executives of Fortune 100 corporations. At Fleet, Charlie coordinated and managed a team of specialists with expertise in all aspects of wealth management. Before joining BankBoston, he spent eight years with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York and the Middle East. Charlie earned his master's degree in government and foreign affairs at Georgetown University, and his bachelor's degree at Villanova University. He is a member of the Advisory Board of REACH, a shelter, advocacy and educational organization formed in 1981 to counter domestic violence and is a mentor at Year Up, an organization which provides ongoing training and career placement for inner city youth. Charlie also serves on the Advisory Committee for the Permanent Fund of the Boston Foundation.

Kristin joined the firm in 2008 bringing 20 years of financial services experience to the firm. She leads the Research Team and is a voting member of the Investment Committee.
Kristin Fafard joined the firm in 2008 bringing 20 years of financial services experience to the firm. She leads the Research Team and is a voting member of the Investment Committee. Previously, Kristin worked at MassMutual where she was the Managing Director, Investment Research & Consulting, leading the research team responsible for the selection and monitoring of 33 investment managers covering 73 investment strategies, and providing investment consulting to MassMutual’s largest retirement clients and prospects. At the same time Kristin served as the Vice President/Officer to the $32 billion MassMutual Select and Premier Fund families. Kristin, who is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and has held NASD series 6, 7, 63, 26 and 24 licenses, earned her bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst's Isenberg School of Management and holds the CEBS designation co-sponsored by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Kristin was selected as one of two working mother professionals to represent MassMutual in the 2006 Working Mother of the Year Awards Ceremony to honor working mothers who have made their mark on the world.

Jen started at Federal Street Advisors in 2004 and serves as Director of Foundation Services. Her primary role is to provide assistance, support and service to foundation, non-profit clients and individual clients interested in philanthropy.
Jen Murtie started at Federal Street Advisors in 2004 and serves as Director of Foundation Services. Her primary role is to provide assistance, support and service to foundation, non-profit clients and individual clients interested in philanthropy. In this capacity, she partners with clients on specific projects, such as conferences, in which they want to connect their investment strategies with their ongoing program initiatives. Prior to joining Federal Street, Jen spent six years working at The Moriah Fund in Washington DC. She served as the foundation’s Administrative Director, where she oversaw the day to day operations of the organization as well as worked with the program staff on grantmaking initiatives. In the fall of 2007 Jen took a six week paid sabbatical from Federal Street Advisors to work on a clean water project in Ghana. She is also the winner of the 2007 Silverman Business Plan Competition with her business proposal to create an ecotourism consulting company focused on economic development in Africa. Her past personal and work experience gives Jen the ability to understand the unique needs of foundations and their goals of aligning their investment decisions with their mission, as well as individuals’ desires to be strategic with their philanthropy. Jen received her BA in sociology and international relations from Houghton College and obtained her MBA from the Simmons School of Management. She serves on the Advisory Council of The Haiti Fund, is part of the Professional Advisors Network for The Boston Foundation and helps lead the YAO Boston Chapter for Opportunity International.

Richard Tardiff, a Principal and the firm's Head of Financial Planning, joined the firm in 2002. Richard is a tax attorney with 16 years of experience practicing tax law in the Boston area, many of those years serving the tax needs of several large investment advisory firms.

Richard is a tax attorney with 16 years of experience practicing tax law in the Boston area, many of those years serving the tax needs of several large investment advisory firms. His past experience gives Richard a unique perspective and the ability to provide clients with advice and expertise in a variety of investment and planning areas. Most recently, he spent eight years with Hale and Dorr, LLP, where he was a senior partner. Prior to that, he was an associate with Gaston & Snow. Richard received his BA in Economics from Williams College and is a graduate of the Yale Law School. He received a diploma from Boston University's Program for Financial Planners and is a CFP professional. Richard attends Investment Committee meetings in his capacity as the firm's Chief Compliance Officer.
